In short
- Wide, shallow ceramic or glass bowls (International Cat Care).
- Water away from food: many cats drink more.
- Whisker stress isn’t proven, but in a 2021 study most cats preferred the wide dish.
- A 15° tilt is comfortable; no study shows it is healthier.
What the evidence says
- In a 2021 Washington State University study (40 cats) the whisker-friendly dish didn’t change intake or spillage, but 3 in 4 cats preferred it.
- International Cat Care recommends wide shallow ceramic or glass bowls and water away from food.
- No veterinary source gives a height; we make 10 cm, and 15 cm (XL) for large or senior cats.

FAQ
Should cats eat from a raised bowl?
Not essential. Larger or older cats often find a slightly raised bowl more comfortable.
